Facts about World Hunger and Malnutrition

Did you know that approximately every 3.6 seconds a person dies due to hunger? World hunger takes place all over the world, mainly in third world countries. There are about 1.2 billion total people who suffer from hunger. Of those 1.2 billion people, 15 million children die from hunger each year. 1 in every 12 people around the world suffers from malnutrition. 160 million children under the age of 5 are malnourished, these totals increase every year. Many people say they are starving, but they really don't know what it is like to actually starve to death. Nearly every 1 in 4 people live on less than $1 per day and 3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on $2 American dollars a day. Poor diet directly effect physical health. Because of this, the direct medical cost for hunger is estimated to be around $30 billion each year. In 1990, almost 200 countries had agreed to cut world hunger in half by 2015.
